Dr. Giovanni Lucchesi

Pediatric orthopedist: training in Italy and abroad

Dr. Giovanni Lucchesi is a pediatric orthopedist who graduated with honors from the University of Messina. He specialized in orthopedics and traumatology at the University of Florence, discussing a multicentric study in pediatric orthopedics (the Too-Long Anterior Calcaneal Process).

During his training as a pediatric orthopedic, he worked in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence. There he had the opportunity to study the diagnosis and the treatment of the congenital clubfoot and hip dysplasia (under the supervision of Dr. Lampasi), and the pediatric traumatology. Furthermore, he attended the Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan for one year. He then learned the techniques of lengthening and correction of complex deformities of the upper and lower limbs through the Ilizarov method under the guidance of Dr. Alexander Kirienko. He spent a period in 2021 at the Pediatric Orthopedics Department at the Hôpital Jeanne de Flandre in Lille, directed by Professor Federico Canavese. He studied the diagnosis and surgical treatment of complex malformations of the hip and foot and the neuro-orthopedics clinic. During his training, he also had the opportunity to attend the Structure of Surgery and Reconstructive Microsurgery of the Hand at the CTO of Florence and the Department of Oncological Orthopaedics.

Pediatric orthopedist: the projects

Thanks to a collaboration that began at the time of his experience at the Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence, he joined the OrtoPediatria group in November 2021. With great enthusiasm, he began working with the other doctors on the project to relaunch and develop children’s orthopedics in Italy and Europe.

He published several articles in international medical journals on pediatric orthopedics. He actively participated in scientific works and was involved in many international conferences on the many aspects of orthopedics in the young age.

Areas of specialization in pediatric orthopedics

He is specialized in the most common problems related to pediatric orthopedics (flatfoot, walking defects, varus-valgus knee, scoliosis, pediatric traumatology, Perthes’ disease, epiphysiolysis…), but over the years he gained experience in the treatment of complex deformities of the upper and lower limbs. Such as congenital pseudoarthrosis, hypoplasia / hemimelias, Blount’s disease, achondroplasia, infectious outcomes, rickets and other skeletal deformities secondary to diseases of bone metabolism, congenital clubfoot, hip dysplasia.
