Pediatric orthopedic specialist: the training.
Dr. Camilla Bettuzzi received her medical degree from Bologna University in March 2006. She discussed the thesis “Orthopedic problems of Down syndrome”. In November 2010, she specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology at Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute (Bologna University). The thesis was about surgical treatment of missed Monteggia Fractures in the pediatric age.
During her studies, she attended the Pediatric Orthopedics and Traumatology department of the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute for several years. From July 2005 as a volunteer, and then, from August 2006, as a specialist doctor in training.
She received a 4-month fellowship at the Center for Children – Hospital for Joint Disease, New York University, in 2010. During this experience, she attended the New York Ponseti Clubfoot Center (directed by Dr. Wallace Lehman) and the Center for the treatment of neuromuscular disorders (directed by Dr. Alfred Grant).
In October 2013, she obtained the 1st Level University Master in “Biomechanics, pathology and treatment of the upper limb” at Bologna University.
Awards and work activities.
She worked at Maggiore Hospital of Bologna from December 2010 to April 2016 and there she was one of the reference doctors for children’s orthopedics. She worked as a pediatric orthopedics specialist in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence (chief Dr. Manuele Lampasi) from May 2016 to April 2020. In October 2017, she was awarded the High Specialization for the treatment of Congenital Clubfoot.
She published many articles in international journals, and she participated in several national and international pediatric orthopedic conferences and courses as a speaker.
In 2017, she was awarded the Traveling Fellowship EPOS (scholarship awarded every year to 3 pediatric orthopedists by the European Pediatric Orthopedic Society). She had the opportunity to visit several renowned medical centers in North America, including the Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Campbell Clinic Orthopedics in Memphis, and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
She was a member of the Pediatric Committee of SICSeG (Italian Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery): period 2020-2022.
She is member of EPOS (European Pediatric Orthopedic Society) since 2017. Actively involved in the following commissions:
– EPOS Nomination Committee 2021-2022
– EPOS Reading Committee 2022-2025
Furthermore, she was one of the few Italian doctors who were certified by Ponseti International (an international association for the treatment of congenital clubfoot with the Ponseti method).
Specialization in pediatric orthopedics
She is specialized in the treatment of congenital clubfoot, leg hemimelia, hip displasya and lower limb discrepancies, as well as the most common problems relating to children’s orthopedic problems (flatfoot, knee varum/valgum, scoliosis, walking defects).
Moreover, she is specialized in the treatment of congenital pathologies of the elbow and shoulder (congenital pseudarthrosis of the clavicle, radio-ulnar synostosis, congenital dislocation of the radial head …), and post-traumatic problems.
